This has been my Home for the past 6 months, I've grown to love it more than anything, I've worked my ass off, lost sleep, got my heart broken, had bbq's, slumber parties, pizza parties, tattoo parties, dinner parties, cried and laughed in this house, and I am going to miss it so much, but it's time to move on.

My bodega dude, I can't pronounce his name but this dude is the best dude out! i buy cigarettes beer and candy from this guy on a daily basis and on halloween when i went to get a pack of smokes, he had a little goodie bag of assorted candies for me and said "ahh I've been waiting for you to come all day, trick or treat, I will never forget that and all nice people i've grown to love in New York.

Best Apartment I've ever had, fuck i will really miss this!

This year is about trying new stuff out, doing everything I've wanted to do since I moved to New York and never gave myself the opportunity to do because i was afraid of rejection, afraid of being disliked, and too caught up working. This city has brought me the best friends anyone can ever ask for, i've also met some terrible people and have dealt with a lot. Marriage and Divorce, deaths, robberies, physically have had my life threatened, hospital visits, hit by cars, fired from jobs, break ups, and friend loses but it has been a fucking amazing ride and I cannot wait to come back and kill it harder. In New York you can live so many lives, do so many things, start over as many times as you want. You have everything here but its also one of the darkest loneliest cruelest places to live. People can be awful, you can be hurt so bad, it gets depressing, it hurts, but thats not why I'm leaving. I am leaving on a very positive note, more like "it's not you it's me, but maybe in a few months we can try and work it out again". All the years I've been here I think I've taken about 4 real vacations, my last work week i clocked in over 90 hours. Its a terrible addiction, and I refuse to continue to live my life that way, from here on out i do what I love; dancing, making art, djing and creating music, no more fucking around.

I want everyones mind to be blown! X

I want to say I first met Tamara a few years back when I was still assisting at Fun City Tattoo and my friend Nina Hartmann was in town getting some work done. When I first met Tamara, I didn't know anything about her other than her obviously being a tattooed babe and of course, as a girl, I was immediately threatened by her beauty. Later on I learned that not only is Tamara beautiful and smart but she is also an EXTREMELY talented artist/ tattoo artist/ individual. I would see her walking around Greenpoint so modestly, happily ordering her coffee, keeping to herself, and being on her way to Three Kings Tattoo Shop where she displays her amazing work not only on the walls of the shop but, on the bodies of friends and strangers from the neighborhood and all over the world. I was so intrigued by her, who is this girl? So young? I was so captivated by her. Finally, I got over my shyness and one day when she came into the restaurant to order her coffee, I introduced myself.

This is Tamara Waite-Santibane, one of the few women that not only inspire me to continue to do what I'm passionate about, but also inspires me to stop being afraid of rejection and and just fucking go for it! She fully inspires me to be alive! This is my interview, this is who she is and how she's worked to be where she is now.

What inspires you? How many hours a week do you spend researching inspiration?

Being in New York, and having the internet, it's hard NOT to stumble across things that are inspiring or people who are doing something mind blowing. I used to do this thing when I was a kid where I would web search my current age and "prodigy" and then get angry with myself for not being as prolific as this or that 13-year-old opera singer or 8-year-old physicist or whatever. Now that I remember it that was probably not good for a youngster but it fostered in me a healthy competitive side and appreciation for those who work hard to achieve. Seeing people who excel at what they do reminds me how much room there is to grow. On the flip side of that it's just as important to know what you DON'T like. Not to dismiss others' work out of hand, but to cultivate a discerning eye and be able to recognize what you do and don't like and why that is and what creates the distinction. And I don't mean facebook/tumblr/instagram "LIKE".

What was the worst job you ever worked?

I was desperately job searching once and walked into a head shop in the Village that had a "HIRING" sign up and got hired on the spot. I got paid five bucks an hour, twelve hour days, to hang out with a piercer that was a Holocaust denier, polish bongs- excuse me, "water pipes"- with Windex, and hustle whip-its. To this day the scent of Windex conjures mental images of huge bongs with silhouettes of pole dancers frosted onto the sides.

Whats your morning routine like?

Wake up, go to the coffee shop with my old man, get caffeinated at a leisurely pace and read the New Yorker, then head either to work to get settled in for the day or back to my studio to survey the scene, make "second coffee", and pick back up on whatever I left unfinished the night before. I have to say it's a pretty luxurious morning scene.

What did you have to do to get to where you are?

I work a lot on the things I do, and spend a lot of time alone. I don't consider that to be a sacrifice or a downside; I might just be one of the lucky few that usually prefers being alone working on drawings or wood carving to having a vibrant social life. I'm straight edge so that helps a lot. Most people my age are hanging out in bars till the wee hours and I get to drink coffee, watch crime dramas, and make art at home. I wouldn't trade it if I could. The short version is really just that: work hard. don't get suckered by fast fame.

What was growing up like for you?

I was a really awkward kid. I know everyone says that, but I got on the fast track to being uncool at an early age. I went to the Waldorf school, where you can only play with toys made of cloth or wood, then got taken out of Montessori school because I was being bullied. I skipped first grade, which combined with my late birthday made me two years younger than everyone else in my class and official "runt baby nerd", sported an accidental bowl cut, did weird things like go to summer camp to learn to play the bagpipes, and mastered the art of reading while walking. I never got into drugs or partying or trouble and instead just got good grades and made all my own clothes. Finally in high school I made some weird girl friends and one punk friend, Jay Flanery, who had green hair and wore a FEAR shirt every day and whose Husker Du tapes I still have to this day.

Have you reached most of your goals?

It is actually really crazy and almost scary to think that I'm not even twenty-five yet and have accomplished most of the things I had as my long-term goals. The only other specific prize I have my eye on at the moment is one day owning my own place to live and work here in New York, and to one day be able to pay my mom's bills.

What's your next project?

I always have a small handful of things in the works and am grateful new projects have presented themselves to me so consistently. I'm doing a show poster for Graveyard in January and am slowly filling my calendar for the coming year with group shows and the like. I am also going to be working with the new RVCA WOMENS division coming up soon, blogging on their site and other exciting things at the behest of the lovely Meghan Edwards which is a very flattering prospect.

What advice can you give other women?

This is such a loaded question because I think in this cultural climate women are quick to be apologists for their efforts to support females as a whole, and insist "it's not FEMINIST", when in a patriarchal society women going out of their way to surround themselves with cool ladies, or play music with women, or curate a show just for women, is inherently feminist. That can be a positive in a way, and is a tack that I try to take myself- being acutely aware of the challenges women face and acting accordingly both for myself and for the women around me without necessarily broadcasting the fact that I have a radical feminist agenda. Because yes, I do, but I don't feel the need to advertise it on a larger scale when I believe that actions have a more profound impact. Making space to spend time with female friends, working hard to be inclusive of women when you are in a position to advocate for them, working hard to be an equal in a male-dominated industry without making the mistake of cutting other women down to do it, all of those things speak volumes. I feel much more comfortable and proactive now knowing a vast number of women who are all unique and doing interesting things across the board than I did as part of a narrower feminist activist community.

If you could change anything in your life, what would it be?

I wouldn't have taken out student loans.

I pay more than I pay in rent now every month to SallieMae with no end in sight.

It's not even a real number how much money I owe, and every single day I think about what I could be doing with that money instead- like paying my mom's bills, paying a mortgage, or just piling stacks on stacks on stacks.

I feel luckier than most art students in that I actually left college with a tangible skill and trade (printmaking) but I could have spent half the time and none of the money learning it in a much more efficient way.

If you could only have one drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Right off the bat I want to say "coffee", but if I'm going to be held to my answer I should probably say "water", huh? ha!

I had the most glorious get away from new york last week, i couldn't even ask for a better boyfriend. Cooked for my boys, took drunken photos, canoeing, smores, walking in the middle of nowhere, boys destroying the beaver dam, having no responsibilities, not having to brush my teeth, venezuelan brunches, wearing wool socks, just overall completely falling in love with life and nature all over again, i'll never forget my "week" in the poconos!

I'm currently sitting in my sisters apartment looking through all my stuff trying to get rid of as much as i possibly can, wishing i had a scanner so everyone can see how much crazy shit i've found! it's like a crazy pile of junk, but good junk, little tiny boxes with little tiny things, i really wish it were possible to showcase this stuff, i don't know how i've collected so many cute cool little things over the past several years.
-I have a stamp collection.
-A suitcase full of letters from old friends and pen-pals.
-10 ziplock bags stuffed with polaroids
-boxes and boxes of childrens books cutouts, tiny magazine clippings, sushi paper, tiny animal stamps, etc
-16 unfinished sketchbooks
-5 unused sketchbooks
-2 big boxes covered in markers and office supplies.
-A redicilous amount of stationary
-Too much origami paper for one person
-3 broked frames
-4 books of just writing
-A sewing Machine
-A type writer
-A suitcase of shoes
-About 12 outfits that I change up weekly.
